Research on Nature and People

A variety of research is undertaken in the Black Forest National Park. And the focus is not only on nature but on humans too. Protecting the natural processes is of course the main objective of the National Park and it’s not only exciting for the team of scientists to see how nature develops when left unattended. How will the forest change? And what species will possibly find a new habitat? Just as interesting is the focus on humans. What images does the National Park create in their minds? And what effects does the wilderness have on them?

That is the reason why the National Park research team is a combination of natural scientists and social scientists. It’s a comprehensive approach that is very important to us, as is collaborating with the region. The research in the National Park is not an end to itself. All findings are used to assist practical work such as species protection tasks, helping to compile the National Park Plan and complementing guided tours. The direct interchange of ideas and the public discussion on the National Park and its development is even a research area of its own. Also important for the National Park team is working together with universities and other research institutes as this supervises and supports numerous operations and projects.
